What to buy your surfer friend - Birthday edition

Updated: Jan 8

We all have this one surfer friend that talks about nothing but surfing and while you are , if you are being honest, getting a bit annoyed about their passion - you also want to continue to be the most supportive friend - thank you, friend! From experience we'll say better it is as once the surfing bug gets them - there's seldom a way back.

1.For the extra ambitious surfers that you know want to challenge themselves to get to the next level:

The surfing log book, which helps them remember each surf session: Tide, Swell, Location, Equipment - you name it! All the things which influence each surf session and which a surfer should keep track of to enhance their surfing progress and to keep challenging themselves.

2.Talking about tracking surf session, however, we CANNOT NOT mention the digitalized and more costly version: The RIP CURL GPS Search Watch

One of our favorite watches but sadly it seems we are cursed and end up losing this exact model on a regular basis. If you ever find one in the SoCal area - please contact us, very likely it's ours. The times we owned it though - the love was real. This watch tracks your GPS and you can see every wave you surfed on the Ripcurl GPS watch App. It's always fun to look back at and remember where and when you surfed AND compare your waves with your friends' waves if they use this watch as well.

3.You want to purchase a present that will remind your friend of you every time they surf? Always needed and super handy is a wetsuit changing mat .

Getting in and out of a wetsuit may be the least fun part of a surf session and everything that makes it a quicker process will be appreciated.

4.There are a bunch of book options available:

5.Active presents - our favorite!

  • Book a surf session or coupon with an experienced surf coach

  • if your friend is landlocked - look at land locked alternatives like standing waves nearby - e.g. the Jochen Schweizer Halle in Munich, Germany

  • a yearly subscription to an online surf training guide - we will make a blog about what is available online some time in the future, or maybe even offer something like this ourselves in the future!? for now we found https://www.ombe.co/ - as an option that looks promising.

I hope this will help you getting your friend ready for... their next surf session!
